IIA NZ Webinar: ESG and Modern Slavery

Gary Shaw, Social Impact Manager, KMD Brands

Former detective and human rights investigator, Gary Shaw, will give his unique perspective on addressing modern slavery in business.

Gary has applied the learnings and experience from his policing and human rights background to his current role, inviting businesses to respond to the very real ESG challenges they are facing as an authentic expression of their inherent purpose and existing company values.

Working within the public, non-profit and private sectors as well as across numerous cultures and nations has provided him with a distinct view on business and those factors that facilitate positive social, cultural and economic transformation.

Background:
Prior to his role as Social Impact Manager for KMD Brands, Gary enjoyed 20 years in the New Zealand Police, serving as a Detective for most of that time.

Working for an international human rights organisation, Gary spent four years investigating cases of modern slavery around the world, working undercover inside criminal networks trafficking women and children into the commercial sex industry. He subsequently launched a New Zealand organisation to document cases of sex trafficking in the Asia-Pacific region. The evidence gathered was used to facilitate the rescue of the victims and the prosecution of the perpetrators involved.

Gary holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Psychology from Canterbury University in Christchurch, a Master of Science in Economic and Community Development from Eastern University, Philadelphia, and an Inner MBA from LinkedIn, Wisdom 2.0 and Sounds True.

This session will be presented via Microsoft Teams and the link will be emailed to those registered on 29 August.
