Panel Discussion Themes: The Role and Challenges of Risk and Assurance in the Fourth Industrial Revolution

The Fourth Industrial Revolution is changing the way businesses operate which also expands the risk landscape that these businesses operate in. The focus of the panel discussion is to understand the role of Risk and Assurance professionals as a sounding board to the organisation’s Boards and Executives in taking advantage of these new technologies while at the same time managing the risks these innovations bring. The discussion will also cover areas where Risk and Assurance professionals need to improve in order to stay aligned to the highest organisational risks and ensure value-added services are delivered.

Panellists:
Erica Jenkin, Group GM Risk, SKYCITY Entertainment Group

Erica is an experienced senior leader across: governance, risk management, assurance, compliance and regulatory affairs, business continuity, fraud, performance improvement and change management. Her experience spans financial services, media, insurance, entertainment & hospitality, FMCG, airline and other industries.

Erica’s key strengths lie in transforming brand and uplifting risk/assurance capability to delivery better outcomes for an organisation, and she is well known for influencing and achieving through others, and always delivering beyond span of the role. In particular, at SKYCITY, Erica is rolling out a world class combined assurance model, with a focus on risk culture and maturity, process efficiency and effectiveness.

Amol Patwardhan, Head of NZ Audit, Westpac
Amol has over 20 years’ experience in financial accounting and internal audit specialising in Financial Markets, Treasury, Liquidity risk and financial reporting. He is responsible for the audit coverage of all the Westpac New Zealand entities, which includes WNZL, Wealth and Insurance entities and Westpac NZ Branch, which includes the Financial Markets business. Prior to his current role, Amol has served various finance and internal audit roles in Banks and Big 4 audit firms in the Middle East and Australia.

Rodger Murphy, Executive General Manager Risk & Assurance, Auckland Transport
Rodger started his career in the Audit team at Deloitte in Christchurch. He then took on the Chief Auditor role at BNZ in Wellington followed by roles in the BNZ Finance, Investments and Insurance business areas based in Auckland. Rodger moved to Sydney to head up Governance and Process Wealth Management at NAB then returned to Auckland as partner Risk Services at Deloitte. In 2017, he moved to Auckland Transport at his current role. Rodger is married with two grown up children and he loves boating and fishing in the Hauraki Gulf and Bay of Islands.
