Risk and Compliance Advisor

This is an opportunity to assist a high performing Risk & Compliance team in delivering major regulatory changes and a number of key compliance projects over the next 12 months. This role may suit someone who is returning to the workforce with past experiences, or someone with relevant risk / compliance / legal experience from an established consulting firm who is looking to transition into an in-house role within the financial services industry.


  • Assist the implementation of the routine risk and compliance program of work
  • Assist the delivery of other ad-hoc advisory work, risk projects and regulatory work
  • Provide coordination and administrative support to the risk and compliance team
  • Organise meetings, workshops and other engagement activities as directed by the other senior members of the team
  • Maintain strong relationship with internal and external stakeholders through effective communication
  • Contribute to a team culture that reinforces organisational and business specific goals, offers to help colleagues and share work activities
  • Implement continuous improvement in the risk and compliance environment
  • Provide support to the Lead Risk and Compliance Officer (NZ), as requested, to achieve strategic objectives for Mercer.


  • Minimum 3 years of working with a financial services organisation
  • Relevant tertiary level or other equivalent qualifications
  • Sound understanding of and ability to operate within risk and compliance frameworks
  • Comfortable working under an agile office environment (i.e. no fixed-desk), and interacting with colleagues located in different locations utilising technologies
  • Ability to work autonomously and with minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Flexibility and ability to manage deliverables with tight timeframe, changing priorities and sometimes overlapping demands
  • Strong rapport building skills with internal and external stakeholders
  • Occasional travel may be required

The role reports to the NZ Lead Risk and Compliance officer and is part of the wider extended Pacific Governance, Risk and Compliance team located in Auckland, Sydney and Melbourne. This role may suit someone looking at returning to workforce after a career break or someone looking to change from client-facing role to an in-house corporate role.
