It's That Time of Year

It is hard to believe that the festive season is upon us! What a year it has been. Little did we know at the beginning of this year that we would be working remotely, locked away for weeks on end, stockpiling toilet paper and wearing masks.

What was reported as being no more threatening than SARS turned out to be a world-wide pandemic. It's nice being so insulated from the rest of the world, although hard for those with family and friends caught up in the craziness offshore, especially now with the northern hemisphere going into winter.

These are certainly interesting times that we are living through.

Our year of planned events went into freefall as we shifted from "in person" training and events into the virtual world.

Notwithstanding all the interruptions, we have come through the year and count our blessings.

It has been a pleasure working with you all, and I hope 2020 has been a time to reflect on the important things in life. May we look forward to the new year with added vigour.

The success of the Institute could not have been achieved without the generous contributions made by the many volunteer members up and down the country. With 5 December being international volunteers' day, I extend my gratitude to all those volunteers - our Board, those on national Committees and who run our special interest groups, those that have presented, delivered training, and provided venues.

You are a key component of our shared success and your efforts are greatly appreciated. Thank you all for your support and dedication to the profession.

Office Closure

National Office will close at noon on Wednesday 23 December 2020 for the Christmas/New Year period and reopen on Monday 11 January 2021.

2021 Member Subscriptions

This past year has not been without its challenges for many individuals and organisations, and to recognise this the Board has, for a fourth successive year, resolved not to increase the annual subscriptions rates.

Invoices for the 2021 financial year will be emailed to members during the week commencing 11 January. For those organisations that have a group membership, we will be in touch in the next week to confirm your staff to be included on that membership.

IIA Certification Holders: Deadline to Report CPE Credit Hours Approaching

The IIA requires holders of its certifications and qualifications to report CPE or CPD credits by 31 December 2020. Reporting information is available in CCMS.

All certified holders must complete 2 CPE hours on ethics.

To assist in making up these hours IIA NZ is running a 2 hours in-person course in Wellington on 14 December.

IIA Global System Outage The IIA, in response to an attempted ransomware attack, made the prudent decision to immediately take their websites and other interconnected systems offline. This was done to protect the integrity of the entire system and safeguard all data, including that of members. Read more here.

CIA Study Group

For those embarking on study in the New Year, we will be continuing our study group.

We are extremely grateful to Brian Robb and Bernie McKendrey for their continued support in running these groups and their willingness to share their expertise with members on the way to achieving certification.
