As the COVID-19 pandemic extends further into the second half of the year, many of us have fallen into a grudging acceptance that disruptions to our home and work routines, once viewed as temporary, could continue indefinitely. It goes without saying that reactions to the global health and economic crisis have unsettled lifestyles, stretched resources, and tested patience and process.

Efforts to manage health and business risks associated with the pandemic have seen varying levels of success. There are differing opinions as to which impacts may permanently change our lives and which are temporary and will disappear as the deadly virus fades in the wake of a vaccine. However, the one thing the chaos of this historic disturbance has reinforced is the value of building strong relationships with stakeholders.
There is evidence, both anecdotal and statistical, that points to a correlation between the strength of stakeholder relationships and the level of involvement internal audit functions have in responding to the pandemic. Those who invested in establishing and nurturing relationships with management and boards before the pandemic were more likely to be actively involved, while those that did not sat on the side-lines.
Part of this conclusion is grounded in common sense. Particularly in times of crisis, leaders are more likely to turn to those they trust. As audit leaders we must invest the time and energy to build those trusting relationships so that our assurance and advice is heeded when catastrophe strikes.

CPE Reporting
|
|
Beginning 30 August, all certified and inactive grace status individuals will receive emails from IIA Global Headquarters to report their CPE credits in the Certification Candidate Management System (CCMS) by 31 December.
It is recognised that some members may have concerns with obtaining 40 CPE due to COVID-19 and while the requirement to obtain 40 CPE has not changed, the Professional Certifications Board (PCB) has agreed to some flexibility to handle exceptions.

Training Courses and Events
Check out our Event Calendar for available courses and events that will upskill and accrue those needed CPE hours.
Education day this year will be delivered with a twist.
Traditionally we have staged the event in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. This year, with the many restrictions imposed with COVID-19, we will be hosting Education Day virtually.
The programme will consist of two 4 hours sessions (including breaks) held over two days. Both days will commence at 8:45am and conclude by 1:00pm. Sessions will be interactive and attendees will leave with practical tools and tips to be used in everyday working and personal life.
Mark your diary for 3 November for the first of the two-day sessions.
As a bonus for those unable to attend on the day/s, the sessions will be recorded and available for purchase later in November.
