Strategic auditing applies internal audit to the organisation's strategy: how it is developed, implemented, monitored, and adjusted. It does not replace risk-based auditing but extends it, ensuring that assurance and advice remain aligned with strategic objectives. Strategic auditing is anchored in the Global Internal Audit Standards and draws on IIA topical guidance in areas such as ESG, culture, technology, and governance.

This webinar will introduce participants to the fundamentals of Strategic Audit: what it is, why it matters now, and how internal audit can apply it to strengthen governance, resilience, and decision-making.

Participants will learn how strategic auditing extends traditional risk-based auditing by aligning assurance with organisational priorities, drawing on the Global Internal Audit Standards and IIA topical guidance across ESG, culture, technology, and governance.

We will walk through the six practical steps of strategic auditing, including scanning external trends, assessing organisational capabilities, evaluating strategic assumptions, linking strategy to plans and performance, auditing major initiatives, and continuously reviewing progress.

By the end of the session, attendees will understand how internal audit can deliver deeper impact - offering foresight, context, and strategic insight that help boards and executives execute strategy effectively and steer the organisation through uncertainty.
